The Retreat: Secure & Affordable Independent Living
The Retreat comprises seven independent houses dedicated to providing safe and affordable living, maintaining the tradition of the Sevenoaks Almshouses. Located conveniently at the top of The Drive, directly behind the Methodist Church, The Retreat offers residents easy access to Sevenoaks town centre and the railway station. Each self-contained house includes a sitting room, kitchen, single bedroom, modern shower room, and a small, private garden space.
Eligibility: These homes are reserved exclusively for individuals who meet specific criteria: applicants must be over 60, capable of independent living, and demonstrate a genuine financial or social need within the specified Area of Benefit. In addition:

Applicants must be over the age of 60 years old

You must be able to live independently. (Trustees do not provide personal care.)

You must demonstrate genuine financial, housing, or social need

You must be a person of limited financial means and good character

Residency Requirement (Area of Benefit): You must either have been born in the area of benefit OR have resided in the Weald of Kent Methodist circuit area for a period of not less than 10 years before the time of appointment.

Preference will be given to persons born in the area of benefit, the most aged, and members of the Weald of Kent Methodist circuit area congregation.
Accommodation Features
Each of the seven self-contained houses is designed for comfortable, independent living. Every unit features a comfortable sitting room, a functional kitchen, one bedroom, and a modern shower room. For added privacy and enjoyment, residents also benefit from a small, private garden space attached to their house.
